Sculpture

in Snow

During the summer of 2006 I was approached by my friend, collector, photographer and snow sculptor Richard Seeley to consider designing a sculpture for USA-Team Minnesota as a submission for the annual snow sculpture competition in Colorado.

Though I knew very little about snow sculpture, and had never worked

in this strange new material, I was intrigued with the idea of creating a large white crystalline piece in one week (that might take months or years in any other medium)... and that would melt away four weeks later.

I signed on to join forces with Rich (a wildlife photographer), his wife Beth Hassinger Seeley (previously a corporate organizer), mathematician and programmer/inventor Dan Schwalbe, and mathematician/professor Stan Wagon (our experienced team captain).
